Global Training Institute is offering a course for Providers who prescribe opioids to patients. The current opioid crisis has placed providers in a difficult position in providing care for patients. About 2 million Americans are addicted to prescription opioids, and more than 15,000 died from overdoses involving prescription opioids in 2015. This course seeks to explain the mechanisms for pain relief using opioids, alternatives for opioids, and treating opioid-addicted patients. Some of the content includes:

Dr. Christopher Powe is the Owner/President of Global Training Institute, located in Canton, MS and part of the MS Bio-Medical Business Collaboratory. Dr. Powe also serves as acting Chief Operating Officer for TelehealthOne, Mississippi’s sole privately-owned Telehealth corporation. He has served as Chief Advanced Practice Officer at University of MS Medical Center serving over 350 nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists and physician assistants. He has served as an Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program since 2004. His previously roles include the Lead Advanced Practice Provider in the Trauma & Surgical Intensive Care Unit at UMMC since 2003. Named Director of Advanced Practice Adult Hospitals, he lead over 200 Advanced Practice Providers into what is now one of the most innovative APP organizational structures in the country. He has vast experience in Critical Care and Emergency advanced practice roles. He has served as a Director of Emergency Services with over 23 years of trauma and critical care nursing experience. He proudly serves in the United States Air Force and the Mississippi National Guard (MSANG) with 12 years of combat experience. Currently, he is a Lieutenant Colonel in the MSANG and is an Iraq War Veteran following a tour in the country’s only Level 1 Combat Trauma & Emergency Treatment Facility. Dr. Powe has dedicated his career in improving education, training and safety for medical providers and the citizens of Mississippi who receive care. Christopher completed his PhD in Clinical Health Sciences, UMC School of Graduate Studies, focusing on Blunt Trauma in the Morbidly Obese. He completed both graduate and undergraduate degrees at the UMC School of Nursing. He is board certified as an acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP-BC) and provides annual board reviews for graduating students from Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Programs. Christopher is the father of three children and married for over 19 years. He actively participates in sports activities with his children including coaching 4-6th Football teams for over 7 years. He also assists in softball coaching for his daughter at the regional tournament levels. He enjoys physical fitness by participating in duathlons (road bike/run), swimming, running and weightlifting. He is also an avid hunter and fisherman.
